SALAY, Misamis Oriental -- Policemen in this town were reportedly sacked following the murder of a woman-activist this weekend.
Salay police personnel were in an emergency meeting when Sun.Star tried to confirm the report that the entire police force was also relieved.
Militants blamed the military for their deaths, an allegation strongly denied by government troops stationed in the eastern portion of the province, which the military say is a hotbed of communist insurgency.

Dalmacio Gandinao, provincial chairman of the Bayan Muna (People First), was attacked inside his home in the town of Salay, Misamis Oriental, late Thursday, according to party official Renato Reyes.
This was confirmed by Senior Superintendent Danny Pelisco, Misamis Oriental police director, who said Gandinao was shot dead by one of seven armed men who barged into his home at about 7 p.m.
Police confirmed Gandinao was chairman of the Misamis Oriental Farmers Association.
