Through the efforts of the local pastor and Thomas Doane, chief engineer for the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad, Doane College was established in 1872.

		In the fall of 1880 he was elected County Commissioner for one term of two years, and again in 1881, was elected to the same office, which he now holds.

		At the same time he pointed out the location of the farm 1/2 mile from that cow barn where his father, Henry Anton, first farmed in the Crete vicinity and where he was born on December 20, 1893.
		The part of the road west from the farmyard to the county road still exists but may have been rerouted to the south where it approaches the the farmyard.
