120 Days of Sodom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 120 Days of Sodom or the School of Freedoms (Les 120 journées de Sodome ou l'école du libertinage) is a book written by the French writer Marquis de Sade in 1784.
Sade wrote The 120 Days of Sodom in the space of thirty-seven days in 1784 whilst he was locked up in the Bastille.
They include men who sodomize girls as young as three, men who prostitute their own daughters to other perverts and watch the proceedings, and others who mutilate women by tearing off fingers or burning them with red-hot pokers.

Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom) is a 1976 film by Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini, based on the book The 120 Days of Sodom by the Marquis de Sade.
The film depicts the three days spent at the palace, during which time the four men of power devise increasingly abhorrent tortures and humiliations for their own pleasure.
At the end of the three days, the victims who chose not to collaborate with their tormentors are murdered in various gruesome ways: scalping, branding, having tongues and eyes cut out.

Salo, or 120 Days of Sodom (Pasolini, 1975)
For 120 days, the victims at Salo endure the very same torture, degradation, and humiliation that we as viewers are forced to watch for 115 minutes.
Every day there is "story time" in which the aristocrats and their victims gather around one of four women, depending on the day, to listen to horrendous stories of sadistic lust or devious violence.
As the 120 days come to an end, it is time for the children to fully pay for their sins and the rules they broke.

Salo Or The 120 Days Of Sodom [1975] DVD at Shop Ireland
Salo is undoubtedly a very hypnotic film whether you like it or not; I found myself watching it without needing to read the subtitles at all.
'Salo' is one of the few films I've seen that on one hand is compulsive (in a rubbernecking kinda way) and repulsive.
Which is its message...Pasolini places a Dantean-triptych onto Sade's text, reducing the 120 days to 3 (which feel like forever)and setting it to the fascist backdrop of Salo during World War II.

Salo or The 120 Days of Sodom - Review - Classic or just some fetish Porn?
Ok when I went to see this film at the Cornerhouse cinema in manchester I went under the trusted advise of a girl I knew from Halls of Residence, she was a Christian girl who wouldn't have even enjoyed seeing you tear up your steak roughly let alone this kind of filth.
The story is that some french generals go to a mansion house in the country for 120 days and on their way visit a few of the local villages taking the nicest and prettiest girls and boys to the mansion with them (you're thinking oh how generous the must be nice men!).
I really cannot explain enough how horrific this film is and I cannot imagine why there would have ever been the desire for this man to write the story let alone try to recreate the horror that may have happened during the war.

Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom - DVDs & VHS - MovieMail UK
Whether you see Salo as an exquisitely made chamber piece denouncing the horrors and indulgences of fascism and human corruption, or as an emetic example of calculated obscenity, it has retained its power to shock, disgust and provoke.
Loosely adapted from the Marquis De Sade's novel, "The 120 Days Of Sodom", Pier Paolo Pasolini's last film is a painful and tortured journey into the mind of a man disillusioned with his own beliefs.
By turns lyrical and poetic, Salo is an extraordionary vision of the terrifying extremes human beings are capable of.

The August 1998 Criterion DVD of SALO is said to be the single most valuable DVD in the world, and can be found rarely on eBay going from anywhere between $600 and $1,000 dollars.
I think, in time, SALO will be reissued on DVD in America, especially as a French DVD release (from Columbia/Gaumont) is in a word, excellent and was obviously taken from first generation materials.
Also, SALO is a film that would benefit greatly from a documentary on its making, especially present-day interviews with some of the actors to get their opinion and insight into the film and its controversy.

Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom (Pier Paolo Pasolini) 1975
Made in 1975 and directed by Pasolini (his final film), Salo is based on Marquis DeSade's 120 Days of Sodom (which I've never read), but places the degradation in that book in a different context : fascist Italy.
I thought it was an effective, if over-the-top, skewering of the evils of a fascist dictatorship, especially as it is portrayed as it is here (at the end of WWII, losing, and with nothing to lose).

These four individuals: the Duc, the President, the Bishop, and the Magistrate, conceive an elaborate plan to kidnap 18 teenagers and abscond with them to an isolated mountain retreat, taking along their own daughters (who the four main characters have swapped and taken as wives), an entourage of guards, and four prostitutes.

The conference coincided with the publication of a bfi Modern Classic on the film by Gary Indiana and preceded a proposed resubmission of the film to the BBFC.
A copy of the video was seized from the Pink Pyramid gay bookshop in Cincinnati in 1994, although the case was subsequently thrown out on a technicality.

Salò is a loose but not unfaithful adaptation of the Marquis de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom.
By bringing the action closer to the present day, and by grounding it in a specific historical reality, it becomes more than just a grotesque psychosexual fable.
To this day there is a good deal of ambiguity about what happened, and a documentary entitled Whoever Tells The Truth Shall Die deals with the possibility that Pasolini was murdered over something political.

At the core of this movie is the exploration of the systematic dehumanization inherent in the dominant consumer culture (here situated in the microcosm of a small villa in fascist Italy, but metaphorically in the western world of consumer capitalism).
Part of this "prejudice" towards the film comes from the fact that Pasolini died violently at the hands of a teenage hustler before the release of the film.

A loose adaptation of the Marquis de Sade's The 120 Days of Sodom, Pier Paolo Pasolini's Salò is perhaps the most disturbing and disgusting film ever made.
Pasolini was an artist of the highest degree, and this was his vision, his creation, his voice against fascism: that it absolutely destroys people in every form, mentally and physically.
So, in summary, I sincerely belive that Salo is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful films of the last 50 years, and that if you're not moved in any way after viewing it, you've been utterly desensitized and have lost all credibility as a human being.

Pier Paolo Pasolini's Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom (known in Italian as Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma) provoked howls of outrage and execration on its original release in 1975, and the controversy rages to this day.
