	Ute Lemper Sings Kurt Weill
		After having listened to `The Seven Deadly Sins' done by several different artists, and having just reviewed a CD on which Anne Sofie von Otter does this work, I discover for the first time that the piece was written in two versions, one for a low voice and one for a high voice.
		Von Otter does the version for high voice and Lemper does the version for low voice that, I suspect, is the way it was originally performed by Fraulein Lenya.
		One service done by comparing Lemper and von Otter's performance is to see how much closer Lemper is to the original spirit of the work than is von Otter.

	Banff Centre Media Release
		A specialist in 17th- and 18th-century music, Simon Standage is violinist with the London-based Salomon Quartet, which he founded in 1981 and which focuses on historical performance of classical repertoire.
		They continued to explore the combination of string quartet and voice, recording with renowned soprano Anne Sofie Von Otter.
		The quartet is resident at the University of Kent in Canterbury, and recently received a Royal Philharmonic Society Award for an outstanding contribution to the world of music.

	The Barrel Organ at Mission San Juan Bautista
		In 1615 Salomon de Caus described and illustrated a barrel organ in which the barrel was divided into bars each each bar into eight beats for the quavers.
		They were all of the Fierce and Warlike style and subject and one or two of them ended with a frightful Yell that to a strangers ear was truly terrific.

	Cantatas BWV 80, BWV 80a & BWV 80b- Discussions - Part 1
		The cantata text is a mix of Luther's hymn from 1529 and poetry by Salomon Franck 1715 and it is very clearly heard in text as well as in music when they change, even if Franck seems very much inspired by Luther's expressions.
		And to another question: although I am a big fan of HIP recordings and love the sound of Hogwood and Koopman, there is one thing I prefer, and that's female altos instead of male countertenors.
		That's one reason I so enjoy Gardiner's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244), since the wonderful Anne Sofie von Otter is given some of the alto recitatives and arias.

		The Viennese composer Anton von Webern (1883-1945) was one of the most important and enigmatic composers of the 20th century, a man whose oeuvre dramatically influenced the modern musical canon.
		The composer made two highly successful visits to London in 1791-92 and 1794-95, mostly under the management of the impresario and violinist Johann Peter Salomon, and Oxford University’s conferral of an honorary Doctor of Music Degree was a source of great pride to Haydn.
		While Haydn was in London, Anton Esterházy died and was succeeded by Nicholas II, who cared less for Haydn’s music than for the glory of having a famous composer in his employ.
