		Salpalinja stretched all the way to the northern frontier of Finland, and full advantage was taken of the contours of the terrain in the course of its construction.
		The planning of the Salpalinja fortifications also took account of the mistakes made during the Winter War: here, the lines of fire were no longer vertical but diagonal, which allowed for cross-fire.
		Today, the Salpalinja fortifications bear witness, in concrete terms, to the will of the people to defend their homeland, and to the living conditions experienced by Finnish soldiers during the time of war.

		Last summer I visited the WW2 military installation called Salpalinja - 'lock line' in english.
		This is a fortification built in 1940-44 to secure the eastern border of Finland.

		The memorial was erected in honour of the war veterans of 1939-1945 for their battle and work and its stones were brought from Salpalinja.
