  Shep Pettibone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shep Pettibone is a record producer, remixer, songwriter and club DJ, one of the most prolific of the 1980s.
His early work was for the disco label Salsoul Records.
A third tune from this session called "Love Won't Wait" was later given to Gary Barlow to record and it reached #1 in the UK in 1997 with co-writing credit given to both Shep and Madonna.

Originally recorded by Devoshun on the SMI label, this track was later re-issued on the AVI label and the group's name changed to Free Style.

Salsoul released the twelve-inch — the first commercially released twelve-inch — in May, much to the chagrin of the Philadelphia-based songwriter Allan Felder.
First he used two copies [of the record] to capture the break, then did it on tape to be cut onto an acetate, thus saving the hassle of doing it live all the time.
The original record had been "mixed with love by Walter Gibbons" and was released on the Jus Born label, a tongue in cheek reference to Walter's christianity.

In the middle of 1974, early disco records about 3 minutes long were released on 7" format.

His 1993 "Guide My Soul" single, recorded as the Messenger, established a prototype for garage music that retained the soul and grit but avoided the overly polished airs much of the music had acquired.

The single is the title track from the new album and features songstress Lady Z the jazz and electronica singer/songwriter who has recorded with Terry Callier Sinead O'Connor and many more.

This is one of (if not) the earliest recordings by this duo, and it got remixed by Danny Tenaglia for the club.
For some unknown reason, Atlantic Records never released this one, but this has still been one of the biggest club hits here in Switzerland in 1989.
