Mayor Malone pointed out that the City is not sending him there, it is his choice to go, therefore she does not want to set the precedence that the City pay his entire wages for the four weeks.
She felt however, there is some benefit to the City from the additional training and should be considered under the City’s guidelines for further education and tuition.

As if the Salt Lake City Council hadn't had enough public comment about the Main Street Plaza — it received 2,067 telephone calls Friday and more than 2,100 Monday — 11 current and former community leaders were to testify Tuesday night at a special "fact-finding" hearing.
City Hall has been inundated with calls and e-mails from both sides, and radio talk shows and newspapers have been flooded with comments.
The council is scheduled to hear from former Mayor Deedee Corradini, LDS Presiding Bishop H. David Burton, American Civil Liberties Union representatives, a former Planning Commission chairman and a handful of former City Council members.

Ground transportation in Salt Lake City is about as simple to dissect as the raging conflict in the Middle East.
The city’s rationale for capping taxi fares and mandating minimum service levels is that taxis provide the only on-call, round-the-clock transportation for many low-income, elderly and disabled folk who have no other mode of transit.
Other sticking points for the council: the ordinance ignores the city’s lack of wheelchair accessible taxicabs, mandatory under the 14-year-old Americans With Disabilities Act; the administration can’t explain its rationale for relaxing certain taxicab regulations; and the ordinance doesn’t provide for beefed-up enforcement, which now is virtually nonexistent.
