 pledgesalute
What Winkler fails to realize is that every film he cites was produced after 1892 and thus after the widespread use of the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag, and it’s original straight-arm salute.
The salute was then used in famous films in the early 1900's, often in fictitious "Roman" scenes, and including a film that involved D'Annunzio entitled "Cabiria" and written of elsewhere.
According to Dr. Martin Winkler in "The Roman Salute on Film" of the American Philological Association, the salute is not in any Roman art or text.

Winkler cites the American Ben-Hur (1907) or the Italian Nerone (1908), although such films did not yet standardize the salute or make it exclusively Roman.

Nazi propaganda chief Josef Goebbels is reported to have seen a copy of the short film and was outraged beyond reason, leaving his screening room kicking chairs and screaming profanities.
The legions of marching soldiers, as well as Hitler giving his Nazi salute, were made to look like wind-up dolls, dancing to the music.
Ultimately, this is not a film to be seen in a vacuum; were this the only thing a person knew about Nazis, one would get a very, very incomplete view.

Wing Commander isn't a score that will be remembered in the history of film music as anything significant, but it makes for some great fun when you're in the right mood for exhilarating space adventure music.
Undoubtedly, the producers of the film requested that Kiner produce music that is, essentially, Arnold in sound, size, theme, and instrumentation.
From the opening brass salute in Arnold's overture to the "Big Damn Ending" (as they put it), complete with all the bells, whistles, and synth chorals, this score will keep you on your toes.

Including a dip into comic racism with a musical salute to Lincoln's Birthday featuring Bing dressed in comic blackface, and actress Louise Beavers as his round, Aunt Jemina-like housekeeper who proudly sings to her kids: "when black folks lived in slavery/ who was it set the Darkie free?"
The idea behind Paramount's "Holiday Inn" couldn't be simpler nor more "old Hollywood" -- the musical tale of a simple crooner (Bing Crosby) who spars with his flashy dancing rival (Fred Astaire) at a holiday-themed nightclub in the sticks.
In fact, I'd argue that "Holiday Inn" is more Fred's show than Bing's -- spinning graceful floor routines and a classic firecracker tap for the Fourth of July that doubles as obvious patriotic wartime fare.
