		Salvador Allende Gossens (26 Luglio, 1908 - 11 Settembre, 1973) fu il Presidente democraticamente eletto del Cile dal 1970 fino al rovesciamento, da parte di un golpe militare sostenuto dagli Stati Uniti, nel 1973.
		Allende fu il co-fondatore del partito socialista cileno, e fu dapprima ministro e successivamente presidente del Senato cileno.
		La politica di Allende, sempre più sbilanciata a sinistra verso il socialismo (in parte risposta alle pressioni di alcune delle frange più massimaliste della sua coalizione), e gli stretti rapporti con Cuba, allarmarono Washington.
