 Nevada Salvage Vehicle Regulations
“Salvage vehicle” means a motor vehicle that at any time has been declared a total loss vehicle, flood-damaged vehicle, non-repairable vehicle or had “salvage” or a similar word or designation placed on any title issued for the vehicle.
When a vehicle has been damaged to the extent it becomes a salvage vehicle, the registered owner must obtain and endorse the current title and submit this to the DMV with an Application for Salvage Title or Non-Repairable Vehicle Certificate.
The DMV will issue a Salvage Title or Non-Repairable Vehicle Certificate to the new owner (the insurance company or wrecking yard) or to the current owner (if the vehicle is retained) within two business days after the department's Central Services Division has received the properly completed application, current title and other documents.

A salvage certificate must be issued for any salvage vehicle which is five years old or newer at the time it was declared salvage or for salvage vehicles whose pre-damage retail value exceeds $6,000 at the time of loss.
If the owner of a retained salvage vehicle fails to surrender the title and be issued a salvage certificate, or sells the vehicle without telling the buyer that the vehicle is totalled, it is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.
If a salvage pool takes into possession a salvage vehicle and the ownership is not evidenced by a salvage certificate, the salvage pool must issue an Idaho Salvage Certificate of Title and surrender other ownership documents to the department.
