Salvation in Catholicism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As sin is the greatest evil, being the root and source of all evil, Sacred Scripture uses the word "salvation" mainly in the sense of liberation of the human race or of individual man from sin and its consequences.
Catholicism teaches that Prophets had foretold Christ as a teacher of Divine truth: "Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, for a leader and a master to the Gentiles" (Is., lv, 4).
Thus assisted the sinner is disposed for salvation from sin; he believes in the revelation and promises of God, he fears God's justice, hopes in his mercy, trusts that God will be merciful to him for Christ's sake, begins to love God as the source of all justice, hates and detests his sins.

Predestination, Catholicism, and Calvinism   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Not only is God completely responsible for the salvation of the elect, but He must also be responsible for the damnation of the reprobate, even to the point of directly willing their sins.
Salvation and damnation depend wholly on the will of God -- man is completely predetermined to one or the other by irresistible grace or the lack thereof, without any cooperation or resistance of his will.
Between these two extremes the Catholic dogma of predestination keeps the golden mean, because it regards eternal happiness primarily as the work of God and His grace, but secondarily as the fruit and reward of the meritorious actions of the predestined.

"Justification, according to Catholicism, is a true eradication of sin, a supernatural infusion of grace, and a renewal of the inner man. The Catholic Church holds that true faith in Jesus Christ is not saving faith unless it bears fruit in good works, without which spiritual growth is impossible.
Grace is defined in Catholicism as the gratuitous benevolence shown by God toward the human race, and it is an absolutely unmerited, free gift of God, made possible through our Redeemer Jesus Christ and his atoning death on the Cross for us.
The doctrine of “works-salvation” often wrongly attributed to Catholicism, is a heresy know as Pelagianism, which was in fact roundly condemned by St. Augustine (354-430), the above-mentioned Council in 529, and the Council of Trent (Canon I on Justification, January 13,1547).

THE GIFT OF SALVATION:   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Since the gift of salvation according to the Scriptures is found nowhere else than in the gospel of Jesus Christ, it is the intent of this critique to examine that document in light of the Biblical declaration of this gospel.
The confidence that the signatories to this document state that they have in "the fundamental truths about the gift of salvation" is totally invalidated by the Roman Catholic understanding of a victim-like "Christ" needing to offer Himself daily on their altars.
In a similar way to call "the assistance of the saints in the life of salvation" a "necessarily interrelated question" rather than a heresy is deception of the first order.

Salvation may now come to those who, although either a believer of a non-Christian religion or not belonging to any church at all, seek God sincerely and follow his commands as best as their conscience directs.
Though salvation may come to individuals who belong to these defective churches, it is still incomplete because the Roman Catholic Church is the chosen instrument for Christ's salvation for all humanity.
On the topic of salvation, it is important to note one of the major points of difference between the Roman Catholic Church and Martin Luther's interpretation of the Scriptures.

Before the time of Christ pagans far removed from the special revelation given to the Jews could be saved by believing that God is, and that He is a remunerator (Hebrews 11:6), and by keeping the law of God, the ten commandments, engraven in their hearts (Romans 2:14,15).

PCC NTIAGQ, 31 October 1999: Salvation by Faith--RC vs. Protestant's Views
The word “salvation” is a very broad term which covers not only conversion, which happens when a person becomes a Christian, but also the Christian’s life of growing in faith, love and holiness (sanctification).
Moreover, when “salvation” is used in this sense, we would not quarrel with Rome’s teaching that works is necessary for salvation—though we will insist that works is not meritorious.
The great divide between Protestantism and Catholicism, however, concerns the instrument or means by which justification is applied to the sinner so that he may be reckoned as righteous and forgiven in the sight of God.

The Truth About Roman Catholicism   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
First, Roman Catholicism, although teaching that the Bible is the Word of God, adds the spurious apocryphal books to the Scriptures, and also elevates church tradition and the edicts of popes and councils (the words of men), to the same or an even greater level of authority than the Word of God.
Second, Roman Catholicism, although teaching that faith in Jesus Christ is necessary for salvation, actually denies the truth of the Gospel by adding sacraments, good works, and purgatory as additional requirements for forgiveness of sin and for eternal life.
Bible salvation is God's free gift to any sinner who believes with the heart that Christ died for his sins and rose again for his justification.

 Difference between Catholicism and Christianity
Roman Catholicism is mental and spiritual slavery to the Vatican.
The Roman institution, calling itself "The Church", usurps Christ's mediatorial office, proclaiming herself as the "sacrament of salvation." The "Church" dispenses salvation to her faithful in small portions, starting at baptism and continuing throughout life.
The choice is between the Bible and the Roman magisterium; the choice is between salvation by grace through faith in Christ, or through human merit and effort in the Roman religion.
