 SAM TAYLOR-WOOD
Sam Taylor-Wood is an outstanding British artist of the younger generation.
She, too, functions as an uncanny detail, embodying the turmoil subtending the elegant, serene surface of the scene, though her flight is as arrested as the difference which threatens momentarily to disrupt.
As Sam Taylor-Wood explains, her thematic interest in the Revolution series was, from the start, "the idea of decadence, and how people behave within that.

Other notable performances in Wood's films include Gladys George in Madame X (1937), almost the entire cast of Our Town (1940), Jean Arthur in The Devil and Miss Jones (1941), Ann Sheridan in Kings Row (1942) (her finest hour), Clark Gable in Command Decision (1948), and James Stewart in The Stratton Story (1949).
Sam Wood was born in Philadelphia in 1883 and was a very active man with an appetite for athletics.
Shortly after, Wood had the misfortune to direct John Gilbert in Way For a Sailor in which Gilbert was rather miscast as a rugged seaman.

If it wasn’t that the food was limited to rapidly wilting cheese, it might have been a real life rendition of Sam Wood’s photograph The Last Supper Wrecked - her parody of Christ’s Last Supper - where the table is full of fruits, meats and wine over which a topless woman presides as Christ.
Sam Taylor Wood was there, with her husband Jay Jopling and young daughter, Angelica.
Wearing a silver halo on her head (was this a deliberate continuation of the Wrecked parody?), Angelica sat on the floor, scribbling with green coloured pens on sheets of paper.

 Sam Wood
When American director Sam Wood first reported to Cecil B. De Mille as an assistant in 1915, Wood had already dabbled in real estate and acted on-stage under the name of Chad Applegate.
Taking into consideration all the complaints about Sam Wood, the biggest bone of contention seems to be his reactionary politics.
Wood was active in a number of right-wing organizations, and in 1947 he virulently condemned Hollywood's "left" before the House Un-American Activities Committee.

He solidifed his position in the 30s when, at MGM, he effectively directed, along with a large number of routine productions, such diverse films as the superb Marx Brothers comedy A NIGHT AT THE OPERA (1935) and the maudlin schooldays drama GOODBYE, MR.
Despite these achievements, Wood's contribution to American cinema has been largely ignored by film historians, perhaps because of his dedication to conservative-hawkish politics.
He was president of the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals, and his testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947 helped fan the notion of Communist infiltration in the film industry.
