Located in Lahore, Pakistan, near the Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque, the mausoleum was begun by his son Kharak Singh on the spot where he was cremated, and was completed by Dalip Singh in 1848.
Ranjit Singh's ashes are contained in a marble urn in the shape of a lotus, sheltered under a marble pavilion inlaid with pietra dura, in the centre of the tomb.
Two small monuments to the west of the main mausoleum commemorate Ranjit Singh's son Kharak Singh and grandson Nau Nihal Singh, and their wives.

This building was built by Kharak Singh son of Ranjit Singh in 1848 AD The square roof has a single fluted dome which supports a chamber which has a small pavilion decorated with pietra dura work.
Kharak Singh the successor of Ranjit Singh, died in 1840.
Ranjit Singh also appropriated many treasures from his Moghal predecessors like calligraphic manuscripts, including Quran's and several hundred exquisite 17th and 18th century paints, which are made in a process now, lost, by grinding precious stones such as emeralds and amethysts to a powder.

This Sikh-period garden was built in a space that was formerly a caravanserai between the fort and the Badshahi mosque (built by Aurangzeb in 1673).
Although not a Mughal garden per se, the Hazuri Bagh reminds us that Ranjit Singh and other Sikhs had a deep appreciation for the Mughal garden tradition (if not for their marble structures or mosques).
When the mosque was in use, the forecourt was needed for a large congregation; but when it was closed by the Sikhs, that space was converted to a garden in the Mughal style.
