Samantha Reed Smith (June 29, 1972–August 25, 1985) was an American schoolgirl from Manchester, Maine who was called "America's Youngest Ambassador" in the United States and the "Goodwill Ambassador" in the Soviet Union during her lifetime.
Smith was born in Houlton, Maine, and lived there with her parents, Arthur and Jane.
Samantha Smith was mourned by about 1,000 people at her funeral in Augusta, Maine, including Vladimir Kulagin of the Soviet Embassy in Washington, who read a personal message of condolence from Mikhail Gorbachev.

In 1982 Samantha Smith was a frightened 10 year old girl in the small community of Manchester, Maine.
Samantha’s mother answered, “Why don’t you.” Samantha did, and Premier Andropov wrote her back inviting her to come to the Soviet Union to meet Russian people and see that they were peace loving with no desire to start a war.
Tragically, at the age of 13, Samantha was killed along with her father in a plane crash when returning to Maine from a peace mission.

In December 1982 Samantha Smith, a 10-year-old girl from Manchester, Me., wrote to Soviet President Yuri Andropov to ask if he was going to wage a nuclear war against the U.S. She toured the USSR at his invitation the following July and as a result, became first a media celebrity and then a television actress.
Samantha died on a rainy August night in 1985 when the commercial plane she was in crashed killing all aboard.

There must be some irony with Samantha's death since part of her job was to sexually and physically abuse Master Harman Smith only to have her death strangely involve sexual assault and the position of her body is rather humilating and suggestive.
