In 2003 Samantha won her first WTA singles match on home soil where she reached the third round of the Australian Open, beating Conchita Martinez and Vanessa Webb in the first and second round respectively.
Samantha qualified for a WTA event in Memphis.
Stosur finished off the year winning the doubles Sony Championships title in Madrid with Lisa Raymond, ended the year ranked number 1 in doubles and a career high 29 in singles.

Stosur, 22, finished her most successful year with her highest singles ranking and as joint No.1 in doubles despite splitting from coach Gigi Fernandez after the Australian Open in January, and subsequently having only a brief association with Australian Mark Hlawaty.
Bradtke said she had told Stosur she was happy to stand aside if a more permanent coach emerged in the next few months, but did not rule out a part-time travelling role next season as Stosur attempts to break into the top 20 from her current slot at No.29.
Stosur is one of 12 players ranked in the top 30 entered for the Australian Women's Hardcourts on the Gold Coast from December 31, along with Russian Maria Kirilenko, Ivanovic and Martina Hingis.

After Stosur is holding her serve for 5-3 she finds a way to give Molik a hard time and works herself back into the match to 5 all.
