		During the early hours of September 27, 1901, a Filipino force under the command of General Lukban launched a surprise attack on Company C of the 9th Infantry, stationed at the small barrio of Balangiga.

		The board passed an ordinance on mining and logging ban in October in response to the clamor of environmental groups to protect the forests of the province, which suffered from the devastating floods in 1989 due to illegal logging.
