When selecting your packaged samgyupsal, you should carefully peruse the freezer container (the samgyupsar needs to be frozen at all time and thawed 30 minutes prior to the cook) to select the best quality.
Try to avoid microwaving the frozen samgyupsal since you do not want it thawed in such method as it might affect the tenderness of the meat.
This package of samgyupsal was previously frozen and is being thawed at the moment, hence the color of the meat.

Samgyupsal was in retrospect fairly hard to come across in the states.
I think most people tended to oder the more expensive beef at barbecue meals rather than pork.
It is a much-heralded and necessary part of male-bonding in Korea to eat good 'ole cheap Samgyupsal with your friends (and get trashed in the process!).

New to the Daeyeon scene in Pusan is London Pub.
Though not quite as pubby as some have envisioned (several folks have remarked it’s a little too well lit), it offers a great alternative to your regular night of samgyupsal and soju.
So you’ve been in Korea for a little while, and you’re enjoying trying all the new foods and varieties of Kimchi and Samgyupsal, but some days you just really want something you know; food from home.
To my (happy) surprise, however, it ended up being almost exactly as it was in Korea, aside from the prices (One bottle of Jinro soju was $15, which is approximately a 1500% markup from the price in Korea.
We had samgyupsal, galbi, doen jang jigae, mandu, along with lots of kimchee and the assorted other side dishes--it was all damn good, and it was like being in Korea with my American friends.
I was (happy) surprised that everyone seemed to enjoy it as much as I did, no doubt partially soju-induced.
If you google "sangyepsal," the way I had been spelling it, you get ME times two!
Anyhow, we ate samgyupsal off of this giant dome.
The pork was all laid out at the top of the dome, and then, along the sides, piles of seasoned bean sprouts, sour kimchi, and fresh slices of garlic were placed.
Serena promised to cut her food into small pieces and chew thoroughly and I felt fairly good about my ability to perform the heimlich on her, should it come to that.
Though it was not on the menu, our food server said they did have samgyupsal when I inquired.
However, for reasons unknown, we could not have just one order.
