Samo was a younger brother of Jan Chalupka, another Slovak writer.
Samo studied at the Evangelical Lutheran Lyceum of Bratislava, and also in Vienna.

In the years 1919 - 1938 ULB had exclusive right to compulsory edition of all printed works from the teritory of Slovakia and Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia and in 1920 the collection of documents related to Slovakia started to be build.
Very special and important part of the library collection are the complete libraries of personal collections of significant slovak personalities among who can be named out these : Rizner, Adam and Samo Chalupka, Ján Wagner, Michal Kišš and so on.

The most dramatic day in the village history is January 6th, 1678 when Turks invaded Poniky and 300 inhabitants were captured.
