Samrat Samprati was the son of Ashoka's blind son Kunal.Kunal was from Ashoka's first queen,who lived in Ujjain with his "Dhai Maa".But somehow Ashoka was able to meet his son and his grandson.
Ashoka was impressed by Samprati's skills as a warrior and an administrator.So he made Samprati the successor to Dasaratha Maurya.After death of Dasratha,Samprati set on the throne of Mauryan empire.
It is said that Samprati built thousands of Jain Temples in India many of which are still worshipped.For example Jain temples at Viramgam and Palitana(Gujarat),Agar Malwa(Ujjain),etc. Samprati is called as "PARAMARHAT SAMRAT SAMPRATI" i.e the greatest disciples of Arihant or Jina Samrat Samprati.

Hemachandra (12th century) wrote that Suhastin the head of the Jain Church at that time was living in Ujjayini 25 when ruled from his capital there, and Samprati was a patron of the Jains.
This might have been actually so but there is no epigraphic or other independent proof of Samprati's affinity to Jainism.
Ujjayini, however, was the scene of an important event which is said to have occurred in the first century BC This legend is connected with the Shaka conquest of Ujjayini and the origin of the Vikram era.
