Samuel Edward Konkin III - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Samuel Edward Konkin III (aka SEK3) (July 8, 1947 - February 23, 2004) was the author of The New Libertarian Manifesto and a proponent of the political philosophy which he called agorism.
Konkin was a proponent of historical revisionism, and while not known to advocate Holocaust denial himself, became active in support of the Institute for Historical Review on the grounds that their freedom of speech was under attack.
Konkin was editor and publisher of the irregularly produced New Libertarian Notes (1971-1975), the New Libertarian Weekly (1975-1978), and finally New Libertarian magazine (1978-1990), the last issue of which was a special science fiction tribute featuring a Robert A. Heinlein cover (issue 187, 1990).

While other libertarian outlets reached for respectability, Konkin's zine proudly embraced the fringe; the results could be great and the results could be ugly, but they could never be boring.
Finally, there is Konkin the man. Sam had a lot of friends and he had a lot of enemies; some people he charmed and some he rubbed the wrong way.

Samuel Edward Konkin III was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on July 8, 1947.
He made no secret of his own views, of course; in fact, if he published an article by anyone who disagreed with him about anything, he felt free to annotate the article with parenthetical comments in square brackets to make clear what he felt the "plumb line" position was on the topic at hand.
It is to be hoped that a similar posthumous collection will be made of the writings of Samuel Edward Konkin III, who died on February 23, 2004, the better to extend his legacy to the next generation of libertarians, and the next.

For fans of intellectual history, this interview with Samuel Edward Konkin III will satisfy your deepest curiosities about the nature of the freedom movement in the 1960's.
Konkin, who authored the New Libertarian Manifesto and put "agorism" in a few obscure web dictionaries, helped craft the distinction between anarcho-capitalism and market anarchism.
Konkin's description of his first exposure to the ideas of liberty suggests the richness of this interview.

Samuel Edward Konkin III ("Sam Konkin," "Sam," or "SEK3" for short) was one of the first self-proclaimed libertarians I ever met.
At the time we met I had started a libertarian group on the campus of the Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York (BMCC, CUNY) and Sam was a graduate student at New York University (NYU), where Sam published a libertarian newsletter, NYU (New) Libertarian Notes.

It is also explicitly against voting and parliamentary strategies and shares a desire with most individualist anarchists to have an economy in which workers are also owners of the business they work in.
I would would dispute, however, Konkin's definition of "libertarianism" as "free-market anarchism." I think all anarchists, and even some conservatives, are believers in liberty as a fundamental value, and therefore libertarian.

Agorism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Agorism is a radical left-libertarian (self-described) political philosophy popularized by the late Samuel Edward Konkin III, whose goal is a society in which all "relations between people are voluntary exchanges - a free market."
Konkin claims that anarcho-capitalists tend to conflate the first and second types, and implies that "Marxoids and cruder collectivists" conflate all three.
Agorists tend to oppose voting and political participation, and at least do not believe that such could ever be an effective means to bring about a free society.

Samuel Edward Konkin III -- 1947-2004 » Rational Review
Samuel Edward Konkin III was born in Saskatchewan on July 8, 1947.
In its main outlines, and with respect to most of its details, Sam's account of the movement's origins and early growth is quite accurate -- particularly when judged by the standards appropriate to journalism.
At a time when, as Jesse Walker puts it, "the libertarian milieu lacked well-funded think tanks and slick-paper magazines, and when offering a low-budget alternative was not a simple matter of launching a blog," Sam Konkin published consistently and regularly on a shoestring -- less than a shoestring.

Robert Anton Wilson -- novelist, poet, playwright, lecturer, stand-up comic, Futurist and psychologist -- lets fly at Murray Rothbard, George Smith, Samuel Edward Konkin III, and other purveyors of the "claim that some sort of metaphysical entity called a 'right' resides in a human being like a 'ghost' residing in a haunted house."
With careful research and ample documentation, he shows that thinkers like Ayn Rand, Murray Rothbard, Tibor Machan and Samuel Konkin not only violate reason and logic in their defense of natural rights, but also violate the standards they set for themselves.

Just as the superstatists understand the State’s workings and use it consciously, there exist those at the counter-economic end of the spectrum who understand the pure libertarian consistency and morality of their acts; these are the agorists.
“Against the Power Elite is the anti-power elite — the Revolutionary Agorist Cadre (or New Libertarian Alliance),” Konkin wrote.
Konkin offered a scenario, using agorist class theory, to illustrate the difference between a limited-government libertarian and an agorist:
