  SAMUEL HARVEY VC
A First World War Victoria Cross winner, Samuel Harvey, who fell on hard times and who was buried in an unmarked pauper's grave was honoured today, 29th September, with a headstone 40 years after his death and 85 years to the day after his heroic VC action.
Samuel Harvey was a 34-year-old private in the 1st Bn, York and Lancaster Regiment during the bitter fighting near the Hohenzollern Redoubt at Loos.
Samuel Harvey was presented with the Victoria Cross at Buckingham Palace by King George V on 24th January 1917.

Samuel Harvey was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
The grave of Sam Harvey, who won his medal for extraordinary bravery at the Battle of Loos in 1915, was located by Chris Matson, a teacher and military historian, in a grass-covered plot at the Old Ipswich Cemetery, Suffolk.
Harvey was a 34-year-old private in the 1st Bn York and Lancaster Regiment during the bitter fighting near the Hohenzollern Redoubt at Loos.

Harvey Samuel Firestone (December 20, 1868 - February 7, 1938) was the founder of one of the first global makers of automobile tires, and one of a handful of entrepreneurs who in the early 20th century turned the U.S. into the world's industrial giant.
Born in the small town of Columbiana, Ohio, Firestone worked for the Columbus Buggy Company in Columbus before starting his own company in 1890, making rubber tires for carriages.
The Ford Firestone corporate marriage was later cemented when Henry's grandson William Clay Ford wed Martha Firestone, grandaughter of Harvey, who then became parents of current Ford Motor Company Chairman, William Clay Ford, Jr.

In 1872 he was chosen to accompany a steam engine to the Tocopilla copper mines of Gwennap immigrants Samuel Lean and John Jose of Lean, Jose and Co. in Bolivia under a three year contract for £12 a month in the first year rising to £15 per month by the third.
Harvey served as High Sheriff of Devon in 1897 and the following year held the same office for Cornwall and was a magistrate in both counties.

While her brother, George, was away during WW1, Hilda HARVEY married Jim MOLD and they settled down to raise a family of six children in Willaston, South Australia
William and Rosa HARVEY are buried together in the Willaston Cemetary, next to their daughter, Hilda, and Hilda's husband, Jim MOLD.
