Livermore was president of the State constitutional convention in 1791 and in 1792 was elected as a Federalist to the United States Senate and was reelected in 1798 and served from March 4, 1793, until his resignation effective June 12, 1801, due to ill health.
Livermore was the father of Arthur Livermore, a U.S. Representative from New Hampshire, and Edward St. Loe Livermore, a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts.

Livermore was the most important advisor to Royal Governor Sir John Wentworth (1767/75), Britain's last royal governor in New Hampshire.
In 1780 Livermore was elected a delegate to the Provincial Congress (succeeding Josiah Bartlett), and he served with the Congress at Philadelphia (PA), 1780/82.
Between 1782/90 Livermore was expected to attend every session of the Court, and to decide all questions of law; while in 1785 Livermore was again appointed a delegate to the Congress (now called the Congress of Confederation).

Samuel Barrett (August 16, 1795-June 24, 1866) was an active and much respected Unitarian minister in the early days of the organized American Unitarian movement.
Beede helped Samuel prepare for college, as he had other young men—among them Ephraim Peabody, Joseph Hale Abbot, Warren Burton, and Abiel Abbot Livermore—all of whom, like Barrett, went on to serve as distinguished Unitarian ministers.
Samuel Barrett died in Roxbury, Massachusetts in June, 1866.

The USS LIVERMORE was launched on 3 August 1940 bearing the name of Samuel Livermore, acting chaplain aboard the CHESAPEAKE in her famed battle with HMS SHANNON during the War of 1812.
By April 1941, the LIVERMORE and her crew were bound for the Caribbean to patrol for German U-boats.
The landings began at 0500 with the LIVERMORE providing antisubmarine and antiaircraft cover and moving in for her gunners to support the landings.
