Teleki, der einem alten ungarischen Adelsgeschlecht entstammte, verbrachte sein erstes Lebensdrittel damit, die Güter seiner Familie zu verwalten und er machte politische Karriere.
Bei der Rückfahrt mit dem Schiff ging Teleki bei Aden noch einmal an Land und erkundete das äthiopische Hochland, vermutlich, um eine neue Expedition zu den entdeckten Seegebieten, diesmal aus nördlicher Richtung, vorzubereiten.
1895 besuchte Teleki erneut Kenia, ein Versuch, den Kilimandscharo zu besteigen, der mittlerweile von Ludwig Purtscheller und Hans Meyer erstbestiegen wurde, scheiterte jedoch abermals.

The library is comprised of approximately 200,000 volumes, 40,000 belonging to the original Teleki collection, 80,000 belonging to the former Bolyai library and the rest from various smaller collections including several denominational schools and a Franciscan monastery.

In particular, the great volcano of Lubburua (Teleki's volcano) at the S. end of the lake is said to have been destroyed between 1889 and 1897 by a sudden explosion.
The highest point of the S.E. side of the lake is Mount Kulal, 7812 ft., while the culminating height within the basin of the lake is Mount Sil, 9280 ft., which lies about 20 m.
Lake Rudolf (previously known on the east coast by report) was discovered in 1888 by Count Samuel Teleki and Lieutenant Ludwig von Hanel.

 Portrait of Sámuel Teleki
The portrait of Sámuel Teleki with that of Samuel Brukenthal in the background was known as the "friendship picture" - a type of painting rare in Hungarian art.
As members of the masonic movement, Teleki and Brukenthal helped to encourage and supervise the methodical preparation of an encyclopaedia undertaken by the Nagyszeben masonic lodge, project intended to cover the history and contemporary conditions of all three nations inhabiting the region.
Stock portrayed both Teleki and Brukenthal at their desks, Teleki in Hungarian national costume in the pose commonly adopted by scientists, and placed him against a background suggesting a workroom.

 Teleki-Teka-Foundation
The 40,000 volumes of the Teleki Library were collected by Sámuel Teleki (1739-1822) from 1759 until his death.
It was given by him, with his personal library, to the city of Marosvásárhely, his birthplace, together with the building he had erected for the purpose of housing his collection.
He returned to Marosvásárhely in 1990 to visit the Teleki Library which he describes as follows: It is full of princeps editions, incunabula and manuscripts of the classics, all beautifully displayed in a small palace.

 Kenya safari guide - Kenyalogy: History: The exploration of Kenya
In 1886, the Austro-Hungarian count Samuel Teleki von Szek (1845-1916) accepted a suggestion from his friend and benefactor, prince Rudolf, son of the Austro-Hungarian emperor Franz-Josef I, to turn the safari he was planning into a journey of exploration of the territories north of Lake Baringo, beyond where Thomson had set foot.
Teleki's and von Höhnel's journey also unveiled a smaller lake, Stefanie, soth of Ethiopia, re-named later as Chew Bahir.
Years after, in 1892, von Höhnel received a proposal from a young millionaire from New York, William Astor Chanler, to join him and Donaldson Smith in the exploration of the region north of the Tana river, from Lake Rudolf to river Juba.

In 1887, the Austro-Hungarian Count Samuel Teleki and members of his team penetrated the dense forest on the lower slopes and reached a point where the trees thinned out enough for them to see Kilimanjaro, which they planned to climb later in their expedition.
The next recorded climb is by Count Teleki and Lieut.
In this year Count Teleki climbed to a height of 15,800 feet, and in August of the same year Dr. Hans Meyer, following the route taken by Count Teleki, attained the altitude of 18,000 feet.

Over on the northeastern shore, Sibiloi National Park - close to the Koobi Fora archaeological site at Alia Bay - is one of Kenya's remotest parks, and protects a surprising variety of wildlife, including zebra, ostrich, gazelle, gerenuk, hartebeest, oryx and a unique sub-race of topi called the Tiang (Damaliscus lunatus).
There are apparently lions and cheetah, and until the start of twentieth century, vast herds of elephant, too, as the explorer Sámuel Teleki related in his diary:
After several days, always in fear of hunger and thirst, we marched through a district where large herds of elephants lived.

The first sighting of the mountain by a European was in 1849 by the German missionary, Ludwig Krapf, but his description of snow-capped peaks on the equator was largely dismissed until in 1883 the Scottish explorer, Joseph Thomson, confirmed Krapf's story.
A few years later, Count Samuel Teleki cut his way through the forest and reached a point above the moorland on the south-west side of the mountain.
Batian was climbed in 1899 by the British mountaineer, Halford Mackinder (see right), the first man known to have been there.

Teleki Bolyai Library from Tirgu Mures is one of the richest old book collections from Transylvania.
It is a scientific, encyclopedic library, constituted in the Age of Enlighten by Teleki Samuel (1739-1822), chancellor of Transylvania (1791-1822), as valuable book fund, internationally recognized, with over 200.000 units.

 Trekkings in Tanzania : Kilimanjaro climbs
It was said that anybody trying to reach the summit would be punished by the spirits with illness and severe cold.
Other explorers, Gustav Fischer and Joseph Thomson, reached the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, and in 1887 Count Samuel Teleki managed to get to a point only 400m below the top of Kibo.
The summit was eventually reached in ctober 1889 by Hans Meyer, a German professor of Geology, accompanies by Ludwig Purtcheller, an experienced alpinist, and Yohannes Lauwo, a local guide from the village of Marangu.

The explorers and adventurers that you have heard of before -- Burton, Gordon, Stanley, Livingstone, and Baker -- are mentioned in passing as part of the general historical context.
But the "heroes" of this story are much less well known: Count Samuel Teleki, Arthur Donaldson Smith, Johann Ludwig Krapf, Joseph Thompson, William Astor Chanler, Arthur Henry Neumann, Captain Vittorio Bottego, and Alexander Xavieryevich Bulatovich.
As the blank spaces on the map of Africa get filled in, less and less territory is available to be "discovered," and the exploration becomes a frantic race among individuals seeking notoriety and wealth rather than a scientific or even a political endeavor.
