1941 bis 1946 diente Samuel Youd in den Übermittlungstruppen der britischen Armee.

John Christopher, an alias for Samuel Youd, wrote the Tripod Trilogy in the 1960s.
Youd (aka John Chrisopher) emailed me and said the he wrote the prequel because another author, Brian Aldiss, questioned the original series and how the Masters could overcome 20th Century technology so easily.
Sam Youd has written a number of other books and series for young adults, many with the post-apocalyptic theme.

"John Christopher" is a pseudonym for Samuel Youd, a prolific author whose full bibliography runs to around 70 novels under seven different names.
Christopher, or rather Youd, is married, has four daughters, a son and grandchildren.
He now lives in Rye, a small coastal town in the Sussex Downs, and part of the filming of the BBC Tripods took place in the fields near his house.

The three of them could have gone out in search of other survivors, set up shop in new places, and...that's as far as my imagination can take me. But of course, Mr.Youd is much more imaginitive than I. Anyway, it's a cool idea.
Empty World, together with The City of Gold and Lead, is one of my two favorite Youd books.
Of course, I haven't read quite half of everything he's written...it's good to know you have something to look forward to.
