San Diego State University (SDSU), founded in 1897, is the largest and oldest higher education facility in the greater San Diego area (generally the City and County of San Diego), and is part of the California State University system.
SDSU is the largest university in San Diego and the third largest in California.
SDSU ranked behind the University of Wisconsin, Madison, the University of California, Santa Barbara, Arizona State University and Indiana University, Bloomington and ahead of Florida State University, Ohio University, the University of Georgia, the University of Tennessee and Canada's McGill University in Montreal.
