This is the large memorial park near Burbank that is built on the hillside where D.W. Griffith filmed The Birth of a Nation in 1915.

In 1837 the Mission funds to the amount of $2000 were taken by the Los Angeles authorities into safe keeping, as Governor Alvarado was marching south to punish the southern people who had risen in rebellion against what they termed his unjust rule.
At San Fernando, on January 16, a force about 270 men under Rocha were massed to arrest Alvarado's march upon Los Angeles, and Alcalde Sepulveda issued an address calling upon the citizens to defend the honor of their beloved country against the Monterey usurper.
In March, 1902, a San Fernando Mission Indian died and was buried on the 22d by the side of his wife in the old cemetery back of the church.

Although the mission was supposed to relieve the long march between San Gabriel and San Buenaventura, the aged padre set it somewhat to the south because of the barren terrain and poor drainage of the middle area.
In 1888, the mission property was used as a warehouse and stable, and later the grounds and patio became a hog farm.
The mission was used for many things during the late 1800's; it was a station for the Butterfield Stage Lines; it was used as storerooms for the Porter Land and Water Company; and in 1896, the quadrangle was actually used as a hog farm.

A cemetery, walled in adobe, was placed on the north side of the church for its whole length and a width of ten varas.
The document accompanying the San Diego plat mentions the cemetery but simply says that it adjoins the church and mission buildings; it is not shown next to the church nor is there space within the boundaries for it to be included at that spot as it is on the other mission plats.
A sketch plan of the mission made in 1874 by Henry L. Oak also places the cemetery in the area of the quadrangle opposite the church34, and at least one early photograph taken from that spot includes a fenced grave.
