The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was a major earthquake that struck San Francisco and the coast of northern California at 5:12am on Wednesday, April 18, 1906.
Though San Francisco would rebuild quickly, the disaster would divert trade, industry and population growth south to Los Angeles, which during the 20th century would become the largest and most important urban area in the West.
The 1906 San Francisco earthquake was caused by a slip on the San Andreas Fault.

Humphreys Peak is the highest point in the U.S. state of Arizona and is located in Coconino County about 11 miles (17.6 kilometers) north of Flagstaff, Arizona.
However, a General Land Office map showed in 1903 San Francisco Peak applied to this feature (apparently borrowed from San Francisco Mountain on which the peak stands).
Humphreys Peak should not be confused with Mount Humphreys, a taller peak in the Sierra Nevada.
