  San Francisco Seals (PCL) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The San Francisco Seals were a minor league baseball team which played in the Pacific Coast League from 1903 until 1957.
During the 1914 season, the Sacramento Solons were moved to San Francisco, where they finished out the season playing as the San Francisco Missions, supposedly representing the city’s Mission District.
During the 1957 season, the New York Giants announced their move to San Francisco for the 1958 season, and the Seals were forced to relocate as a result.

San Francisco won its next championship in 1922 with Top 100 team #44 and the history of the team is updated in the report of that club.
San Francisco eked out a 9-8 win in the series finale, scoring the winning run in the eighth inning on a bloop single and the Seals could claim to be the best team in the minor leagues.

Strub, who had been an infielder for the San Francisco team in the outlaw California State League in 1903-04, was flamboyant and known as the "advertising dentist" because of his billboards and newspaper ads from which, one observer said, it was impossible to escape.
The Seals played at Recreation Park at 15th and Valencia Streets and the three owners became known as "The Valencia Street Vanderbilts." In 1934, when horse racing was legalized in California, Strub created and built Santa Anita racetrack in Southern California and became its president.
San Francisco led the league in batting (.298), runs (1085), triples (79) and team fielding (.964) and had four of the top 12 pitchers in ERA.

The Seals joined the Pacific Coast League in its initial year of operation in 1903 and lasted until the end of the 1957 season, when the New York Giants moved to San Francisco.
The team became known as the Seals in 1909 and won their first PCL pennant that year, guided by manager Danny Long, pitchers Cack Henley and Pete Browning; and sluggers Ping Bodie and Nick Williams.
The Seals had an informal working agreement with the Detroit Tigers that year and it was instrumental in helping the Seals win the PCL pennant that season.

Amazing how the Pacific Coast League is still talked about all the time in San Francisco (the San Francisco Seals and the Oakland Oaks) but no one in L.A. really bothers talking about the world pre-L.A. Dodgers.
In Frisco, there is the amazing piano bar/restaurant LEFTY O'DOUL'S which is a great remnant left by the Seals long time manager, there is a Lefty O'Doul Boulevard, and they also did a book about Pre-Giants baseball in Frisco that's in every Frisco library.
Plus, catty-corner to where the old Seals Stadium is, there is the DOUBLE PLAY bar, which is still a Seals hang....
