On October 29, 2002, Mayor Clarence Benwaren of the Municipality of Tineg, Province of Abra, was murdered inside the San Isidro Labrador Church in Calauan Laguna while participating in a sacred rite of matrimony.
Yesterday, the Lady Mayor Wilma Saguiyod-Gatud of Tubo, Abra, another Municipality that has witnessed the assassination of it's late Mayor Jose Segundo (who was also on the opposition side) in the not too distant past, was arrested for an alleged 'possession of unlicensed long firearms'.
This is being perceived by many as a convenient distraction from what the police should be concentrating which is the immediate resolution of the Benwaren Murder, and timely done to show false control since the DILG Secretary was coincidentally visiting the Municipality of San Juan, Abra.
