San Luis Obispo County is a county located on the central Pacific coast of the U.S. state of California, between Los Angeles and the Bay Area.
San Luis Obispo County was one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood.
In the county the population was spread out with 21.70% under the age of 18, 13.60% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 23.30% from 45 to 64, and 14.50% who were 65 years of age or older.

The dead body of the male sea otter was found by a sea otter researcher on a beach in San Luis Obispo County on June 5.
A necropsy finding that the otter had recently died of a gunshot wound was performed by the Marine Wildlife Veterinary Care and Research Center in coordination with a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s forensics lab.
In February 2002, a male otter was found dead on Hendry’s Beach in Santa Barbara County with a single gunshot wound to the head.
