Most of the conservation efforts focus on the municipality of San Mariano in Isabela Province, where three distinct crocodile breeding areas have been identified with a total minimum population of 31 non-hatchling crocodiles in 2003.
San Mariano covers a large upland area from the foothills to the peaks of the Northern Sierra Madre Mountains.
The Philippine crocodiles in San Mariano are mainly found in the foothills of Sierra Madre, sharing creeks, rivers and lakes with upland farmers and the indigenous peoples of the area: the Agta and the Kalinga.

ILAGAN, Isabela - Another soldier died from the collision of an Army six-by-six truck and a passenger bus in Alicia, Isabela, bringing the number of casualties to nine.

Isabela Vice Gov. Ramon Reyes, on the other hand, said the provincial board will come up with a legislation for the declaration of the province’s four barangays as turtle sanctuaries.

First found in Mindoro in 1935, the Philippine crocodile has been thought to be extinct in Luzon, until a group of fishermen in San Mariano, Isabela found a crocodile hatchling in Disulap river in 1999.

(UPDATE) SAN MARIANO, Isabela -- A policeman was killed and several ballot boxes and election paraphernalia were burned as armed men attacked the town halls of San Mariano and Jones on Tuesday night.
The slain policeman was identified as police officer Manuel Artuz of the San Mariano police.
In Manila, Commission on Elections Commissioner Mehol Sadain, in charge of Cagayan Valley region, said the election officer from Jones was hospitalized while the one from San Mariano was missing.
