		In the San Vittore in Ciel d’Oro Chapel, built in the 4th century and decorated with mosaics, the most antique and realistic image of Sant’ Ambrogio is preserved.
		The construction began in 1463 by Guiniforte Solari a very active architect in Milan, to whom the church of San Pietro in Gessate and the church of Santa Maria Incoronata ore also attributed.
		Among the houses, the villa built far his family by architect Luigi Figini (1934-1935) is wurth seeing; at number 8, via Perrone di San Martino there is a building of clear architectonic lines, remarquable example of Italian Rationalism.

	CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Hermits of St. Augustine
		In 1331 Pope John XXII had appointed the Augustinian Hermits guardians of the tomb of St. Augustine in the Church of S. Pietro in Ciel d'Oro at Pavia.
		In recent times the church of S. Pietro was restored, and on 7 October, 1900, the body of the saint was removed from the cathedral and replaced in San Pietro--an event commemorated in a poem by Pope Leo XIII.
		Their monastery being destroyed in 1799, and the church desecrated, the remains of St. Augustine were taken back to Pavia and placed in its cathedral.

	Bramante in Lombardia
		Galeazzo II Visconti, particolarmente legato alla città di Pavia, fu sepolto con figlie e nipoti nel coro della chiesa agostiniana di San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro : anche in questo caso le tombe circondavano l'altare maggiore.
		Nel XIV secolo una parte della discendenza di Matteo I fu sepolta in una cappella (quarta a destra) della domenicana Sant'Eustorgio, chiesa di un ordine religioso particolarmente legato alla famiglia Visconti: il monumento funerario di Stefano e Valentina Visconti diventò una sepoltura collettiva.
		Il monumento di Bernabò Visconti era collocato addirittura dietro l'altar maggiore della chiesa, e la statua equestre sovrapposta alla cassa sovrastava la mensa dell'altare ed era rivolta verso i fedeli raccolti nelle navate.
