Sanaag is a region in northern Somalia, formerly part of the British Somaliland protectorate.
Sanaag is claimed by the two self-proclaimed, but internationally unrecognized, states of Somaliland (of which it would form the largest region) and Puntland.
A small area has been proclaimed as the Republic of Saba.

The main focus of the convention was to develop strategies in rebuilding and enhancing the educational system in the Sool, Sanaag and Hawd regions of Somalia, however, another point of focus by participants dealt with issues effecting the peace and security of the region.
The Sool, Sanaag and Hawd Professionals Network (SSHPN) was launched as a non-for-profit, non-governmental development organization whose goal is to assist in the development of Sool, Sanaag and Hawd regions, and the enhancement of the quality of life for its people.
The Convention called on all the Garaads, traditional leaders and politicians of Sool, Sanaag and Hawd to work together to maintain the peace and security of the region, and to better the quality of life for its people and for the people of Somalia in general.

To provide intermediate and secondary education opportunity to children of nomadic and rural families in the villages and surrounding areas in the Sanaag region, by creating one fully equipped secondary boarding school in Erigavo.
Most of the population in Sanaag region are about seventy percent are nomads and depend on livestock and seasonal farming for their livelihood.

It is the first time in recent memory of northern Somalia and of the Somali people, in general, that a northern Somali sub-clan has claimed the territorial integrity of another Somali sub-clan as their own.It is a claim that is nevertheless advocated by western based Somali intellectuals belonging to that certain Somali sub-clan.
Ooh by the way, no need to exaggerate, for the record, it is not Sanaag it is Eastern Sanaag and parts of Sool because much of Sanaag is under the control of Somaliland, also small parts of Sool such as the town of Caynabo is under the control of Somaliland authority.

Sool is exclusively for Dhulbahante, this tribe's territory also stretches to Togdheer region, and the region of Cayn is derived from Buhoodle, which is one of the four official districts of Togdheer.
These Sool and Sanaag ppl are our uncles, aunties, grans etc. From the sudden panicks few of them(those living with majiraan)are getting from the very idea of the group today known as Dirta Waqooyi displays Jahilya.
It is true that Sanaag and Sool are not developed as other regions in Puntland, but we are in the process of developing these regions such the construction of a Port in Laas Qoray and more factories across Sanaag and rest of Puntland because it is our HOME.
