Glass sand is brought to the factory at Redcliff, Alberta, from Illinois, so that the discovery of deposits of this material in Alberta would make the industry not only independent of foreign sources, but could lead to its expansion.
Two possible sources of sand were investigated, namely the quartzitic sandstones occurring in the Rocky Mountains, and sands occurring on the beaches of several of the larger lakes.
In 1946 a deposit of sandstone was found near the town of Peace River, and is the subject of this report, since it offers good prospects as a source of glass sand.

Sierra Legal in the News: Court nixes use of Sand River Road for logging
The legal wrangling began after Michael Jenks, of British Columbia, bought former Algoma Central Railway land east of the park in November 2002 and the MNR refused him access via Sand River Road.
Although the judges, in a written decision, acknowledged "individuals and corporations" had used the road to access ACR land in the past, they made a "key distinction": that they "were also using it to access Crown timber east of the park.
Rather, the plan "creates ambiguity which must lead the court to consider the available extrinsic evidence (that) establishes that the Sand River Road has a long history of providing access to timber sources in both public lands and private property (particularly in the ACR lands)."
