		Albert Sambre gave a report on the HIV/AIDS situation in Sandaun Province in which he expressed grave concern about the frequent travel of Papua New Guineans across the border to the Indonesian province of Papua where commercial sex was legalised.
		The Sandaun Provincial AIDS Committee had launched an extensive HIV/AIDS awareness campaign throughout the province in an effort to minimise the increase in infections.
		Among them were the border crossing and trading, high illiteracy rate, rise in commercial sex activities, smuggling of sex aids and obscene materials, pre- marital sex, lack of testing clinics, rise in promiscuous sexual activities, risky customary practises such as polygamy, social dances and parties and rise in drug and alcohol consumption.

		“Sandaun contributes about K6 million every year in cocoa sales from Lumi and Nuku districts that go through Wewak because there is no road linking these districts with coastal towns of Aitape and Vanimo,” Mr Yuni said.
		He is also disappointed that the road from Vanimo to Wutung is not even sealed and blames Cabinet ministers for not recognising the importance of this road.
