| | 07/27/00 -- Nauru first to express interest in Vanimo FTZ |
 | | Having been in the pipeline for a while now, Mr Tekwie’s plans to construct a global village on vacant land in the Sandaun province took a step closer to reality with the passing of the FTZ bill. The proposed global village will have a bit of each of any country interested in investing in the province. |
 | | We should be talking about moving forward, and not sit around complaining about the lack of help from the government,” he said. With the FTZ and the proposed global village, Mr Tekwie hopes to solve unemployment problems in Sandaun, alleviate literacy problems, decrease infant mortality rates and lift the standard of living in Sandaun. |
 | | He said that presently, every part of Sandaun had a major economic activity or project running, and with the FTZ status, it would only mean that economically, Sandaun would progress. |
