But Sanders County chose not to for two reasons, the county commissioners said in a conference call with the Missoulian on Tuesday: One was to avoid potentially costly litigation challenging the competency of contracted public defenders.
The county was considering offering him a two-year contract, and then the commissioners decided to withdraw as a contracting party altogether, to avoid potential costs and liabilities of providing indigent defense.

And I met quite a few Sanders family genealogy researchers who were quite willing to share the information they had compiled.
