 Sandia Pueblo
Sandia Pueblo is perhaps the least known and understood of the dozens of pueblo cultures that once dominated the Rio Grande Valley.
Sandia's boundaries were designated by Lt. General Bernado de Bustamante to be a minimum of one league, or about three miles, in each direction from the pueblo's church, which is now the area of the cemetary.
Sandia Pueblo was the seat of a mission known as San Francisco de Sandia in 1630 and, later, as seat of Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores y San Antonio de Sandia in 1760.

The area lies primarily on the western slope of the Sandia Mountains, but it crosses over to the eastern side at the north and south ends.
Accessible from the tram is the Crest Trail, which runs along 26.54 miles of the main ridge of the Sandias at an elevation averaging 10,000 feet.
