The Pueblo People are a diverse group of Native Americans who live in New Mexico and in Arizona and who subsist by farming.
This group stands in contrast to the Tanoan-speaking Pueblos (except Jemez) who have nonexogamous patrilineal clans, two kivas or two groups of kivas and a general belief in dualism, emergence from underwater, five directions beginning in the east, and ritual numbers based on multiples of three.
On September 22, 2005, the statue of Po'pay, (Popé) the leader of the Pueblo Revolt, was unveiled in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington D.C. The statue was the second one from the state of New Mexico and the 100th and last to be added to the Statuary Hall collection.

Sandia Pueblo is perhaps the least known and understood of the dozens of pueblo cultures that once dominated the Rio Grande Valley.
Sandia Pueblo was the seat of a mission known as San Francisco de Sandia in 1630 and, later, as seat of Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores y San Antonio de Sandia in 1760.
Taos and Picuris are the northern Tiwas, Isleta, Ysleta del Sur and Sandia are the southern Tiwas.

For the Pueblo of Sandia, it's a difficult compromise.
Sandia Mountain has thousands of visitors annually who use it as a popular recreation area with hiking trails, a small skiing operation, a restaurant, visitor center, hand-gliding launch sites and several private subdivisions.
Sandia Pueblo sued the Interior and Agriculture Departments in 1994 to correct the 1859 survey, and at the time assured homeowners and businesses within the disputed area that it would not assert title, taxation or jurisdiction over private land, leases and rights-of-way.

Sandia’s water quality standards, which are more stringent than those of the State of New Mexico, prescribe acceptable levels of contaminants and establish existing uses of the reservation that must be protected.
Sandia’s “treatment as state” status and the Water Quality Standards Program that emerged from it are important steps in the nation’s autonomy over its waters.
