Augusto César Sandino - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sandino, born Augusto Nicolás Calderón Sandino in the Nicaraguan village of Niquinohomo (department of Masaya), was the son of Gregorio Sandino, a coffee grower, and Margarita Calderón, one of the employees on his father's plantation.
Sandino's principle demands were the resignation of President Díaz, withdrawal of U.S. troops, new elections supervised by Latin American countries and the aborgation of the Bryan-Chamorro Treaty, which gave the U.S. exclusive rights to build a canal across Nicaragua.
Sandino's relations with Turcios soured as a result of the laters opposition to Sandino's Junta proposal and his siding with Honduras in a border dispute with Guatemala, which Sandino saw as a distraction from the goal of Central American unification.

Sandino's social radicalism did not come from Moscow but from Mexico; it came not from text books and volumes but from his condition as a worker and mestizo eager for knowledge, as a member of the oil workers' union, perhaps the most radicalized labor union in Latin America.
Sandino had faith not in institutionalized religion but in a religion that responds to the spiritual need of each person and of a people; in the redemption of man, woman, and society through the strength of God that he called Love, that he called Divine Justice, and that is implacable.
Sandino explained this to his troops: "There is no lack of redeemers, the individual is capable of self-redemption on his own." For Sandino the country's liberation comes about through the liberation of the individual, through abandoning vices, through love for the community that is also identification with other people in struggle.

BBC - Radio 3 World on Your Street - Reviews: Sandino's, Derry
Dedicated to a trio of cigar-toting revolutionaries, Che, Fidel, and the eponymous Cesar Augusto, the cantina-style Sandino's in Derry's Water Street is an unashamedly left-wing café-bar.
As its name might imply, Sandino's has forged particularly strong cultural and political links with the countries of Central and South America.
Worthy politics certainly, but where Sandino's excels is as a venue for live performance, punching way above its weight for a bar its size by regularly booking acts of an international calibre such as jazz luminary Louis Stewart, poet Louis de Paor and legendary Irish fiddler Tommy Peoples.
