Sandown is twinned (jumelée in french) with the town of Tonnay-Charente, in the western French département of Charente-Maritime.

Sandown is a seaside town lying on the east side of the island and it was a favourite holiday venue of Lewis Caroll.
Between Sandown and Shanklin are some lovely gardens and there is a wide view across the bay from the white walls of Culver Cliff that rise 250 feet out of the water across to the sun scorched cliffs near Dunnose.
This castle was only second in importance to Carisbrooke but it was destroyed by the sea and later was rebuilt by Charles I. But in 1864 it was demolished and the stones were used in the building of the present fort.

SANDOWN - In an effort to help to develop more walking and hiking trails in town, the Conservation Commission is forming a subcommittee devoted to trail development on town-owned land and is asking residents with an interest in recreation and trail development to participate.
Developing more defined walking trails and paths through town land would not only provide residents with a safe place to explore the outdoors but would be a value to people who never stepped foot on a trail by adding value to their homes and to the town in general, Carey said.
With many towns in the area, Sandown included, seeing extreme population growth in recent years, a trail system in town would have value to someone looking for a nice town to live and raise their children, said Carey.

SANDOWN - In an effort to improve the quality of life for residents of Sandown and to preserve the rural atmosphere, the Conservation Commission is embarking on a grand effort to secure and preserve town-owned land for the development of a townwide trail system.
The selectmen unanimously approved the articles that, if voters pass them in March, would allow the Conservation Commission to have jurisdiction of more than 200 acres of the more than 400 acres of town-owned land.
"Sandown is quickly turning into a town of bedrooms and driveways," said Conservation Commission member Mark Trager.

I have been to sandown twice now, once last year and second was yesterday.
Sandown is allways very busy its a shame you turned around as you missed a very very good show which for once this year had a lot more heli flying than it did last year.
I've allways found coming in to sandown from the m25 is just too heavy with traffic it is allways far easyer to come in from the m3 via sunbury.
