Sandra Gidley, MP for Romsey, Hampshire lent a helping hand to deliver meals with local WRVS volunteers at the Romsey Meals on Wheels project on 16 February.
Since October 2003 Sandra Gidley has been the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for older people and was keen to experience a Meals on Wheels delivery round first hand.
Sandra said of her experience: "I was very impressed with the service - it is not just Meals on Wheels - I felt that the volunteers also provided a useful social service".

Gidleys in London in the 19th century are still not all allocated to trees yet, and there are gaps in all the trees for births between the 1901 census and 1911 when mothers' maiden names began to be included in birth registrations.
In 1769 a John Gidley was transported to Virginia for stealing a bale of cloth in the Crediton area of Devon.
The existing Gidleys were increased in Lucas County by Richard and Dinah Gidley and their family from the Winkleigh branch, and in Cuyahoga County by William and Sarah Gidley from the Dean Prior branch.

Mrs Sandra Gidley became the first pharmacist to sit as a Member of Parliament since 1964, when she overturned a Conservative majority of 8,585 to win the Romsey by-election for the Liberal Democrats on May 4.
Mrs Gidley said that she had received a letter of congratulations from the President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (Mrs Christine Glover), which was pleasing.
Mrs Gidley was elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor for the Tadbury ward of Test Valley district council in 1995, being re-elected in 1999.

Born Sandra Julia Rawson in Rosset, Denbighshire in Wales, she was educated widely at the Eggars Grammar School, Alton, Hampshire; the Afcent International School in Brunssum, Netherlands; and the Windsor School, Hamm, Germany.
She has been married to Bill Gidley since 1979 and they have a son and a daughter and live in Romsey.

Sandra took her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Bath in 1978, and worked as a pharmacist and pharmacy manager from 1990 until her election to Westminster in 2000.

A pharmacist by profession, Sandra Gidley is a member of the Health select committee and a vice-chairwoman of the All Party Group on Men's Health.
Gidley won Romsey in a May 2000 by-election, caused by the death of sitting Tory Michael Colvin, the only seat to change hands in Britain throughout the 1997-2001 Parliament.
The 12% swing which gave her victory was largely helped by a campaign which stressed her local roots.

Instead of a morale-boosting victory in what was the party's 51st safest seat, Mr Hague was forced to contemplate what looked like a localised but highly embarrassing rejection of his populist policies.
An all-out effort by the Lib- Dems turned a seemingly impregnable Tory lead of 8,585 into a majority of 3,311 for their new MP, Sandra Gidley, on a swing of 12.5 per cent.
While the Tory share dipped only slightly to 42 per cent, Labour's slumped to less than four per cent, costing candidate Andrew Howard his deposit.
