By the time you read this, Sandra Magnus should be days away from becoming the third UMR graduate to fly into space - a trip that fulfills a longtime dream.
Magnus, 36, is scheduled to launch into space on Sept. 26 on the shuttle Atlantis.
One of Magnus' mentors at NASA is Shannon Lucid, one of the first female astronauts, who lived in space for a record 188 days in 1996 on the Russian space station Mir.

Sandra Hall Magnus (born 30 October 1964) is an American astronaut and veteran of a single space mission.
Magnus was born and raised in Belleville, Illinois and earned degrees in physics and electrical engineering from the University of Missouri - Rolla before earning a doctorate in materials science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996.
She went to Central Junior high, which is part of belleville District 118.

From 1991 to 1996, Magnus completed her thesis work which was supported by NASA-Lewis Research Center through a Graduate Student Fellowship and involved investigations on materials of interest for “Scandate” thermionic cathodes.
In July 2005, Dr. Magnus was assigned to the ISS Expedition Corps to begin training for a future space station long duration mission.
Magnus operated the space station’s robotic arm during the three spacewalks required to outfit and activate the new component.

This book is really good Sandra Hill: the heroine (always this author's weakest point) is decent, the hero is okay, and the ten children - yes, ten - aren't so bad, although I would still recommend we permanently attach a spermicide-fortified condom to the hero Magnus Ericson's wee-wee after snipping his tubes.
Some have died, one has grown up, one has married, and now Magnus is not going to have any more kids.
Magnus has enough characterization to make him a little better than a throbbing erection and while Fugazi Abruzzi won't be the sharpest blade in the tool drawer, she's not shrill like too many Sandra Hill heroines and she's not as frigid or stupid either.
