Sandringham accounted for the Northern Bullants yesterday at Preston City Oval, 10.9 (69) to 6.7 (43), but it was much harder than many observers expected.
The Bullants had sought to create stoppages and congestion, especially in Sandringham's forward line, to restrict the free flowing running game that the Zebras have employed so effectively this season.
When the heavens opened at the start of the second half, the task ahead of the Bullants became even more difficult and even though they were within two straight kicks at the final change, Sandringham was too strong.

But the Dandenong line is longer than the Sandringham line, hence the ongoing claims that this line can't sustain a mixture of express and stopping trains at nearly the same capacity without a separate track for the express trains.

Seven years later the service was extended to Beaumaris on the understanding that residents of that district would meet some of the losses that might be amassed by extending the route to a scarcely populated area.
Stage one was the construction of the line from Bay Road, Sandringham to Balcombe Road; stage two was from Balcombe Road to Cromer Road; with the final section being from Cromer Road, Beaumaris to Mordialloc.
Information on areas that would be served, where the line would act as a feeder, the area on which a betterment tax should be imposed, and estimate of the increased population as a result of the tramway were all matters that needed to be addressed.
