		In early 2000, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) was contacted concerning an unknown fl substance found approximately one-half mile away in Skunk Creek.
		Preliminary investigations by MPCA and MDA staff determined the substance to be creosote and that it had impacted a nearby potable well.
		Current investigative findings indicate that the surface and ground water contamination may be the result of direct disposal of creosote products to Skunk Creek from former railroad spurs that ran from the then KRC Creosote Plant to the then KRC mining operation along the nearby Kettle River.
