Sandy Bay, Tasmania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sandy Bay is a suburb of the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
However, it is also the site of the Hobart campus of the University of Tasmania, Fahan School and The Hutchins School, and as a result has a large student population.
Sandy Bay is accessible via Sandy Bay Road, which runs from Davey Street in the city all the way to the Kingborough municipal boundary at Taroona when it becomes the Channel Highway.

 Sandy Bay
It was during the 1970s, however, that the Sandy Bay Football Club really came into its own, embarking on a sustained period of dominance that few TFL clubs have matched.
Sandy Bay's demise was a simple matter of economics: the TFL had outgrown itself and there was no longer a place for clubs which first and foremost were about enjoying football - like, quintessentially, Sandy Bay - rather than about achieving success in business terms.
The new, trimmed down TFL was leaner, meaner and supposedly better equipped to withstand the inevitable pressures of the new century; however, according to the subjective criteria to which many genuine football supporters still subscribe the departure of Sandy Bay - and Hobart, and Launceston - left the TFL a considerably poorer football environment.

 Sandy Bay Croquet Club
The Hobart Golf Club was eventually relocated at Rosny on the Eastern Shore and the croquet club, renamed the Sandy Bay Croquet Club, found temporary quarters at Beach House, which for that era was a palatial private hotel with bowling greens, tennis courts and a croquet lawn.
In 1918 the first Sandy Bay croquet lawn was laid out by a Mr T M Lipscombe, Assistant Superintendent of Reserves for the Queensborough Council, and leased to the Club.
The second lawn was laid in 1963 and the third in 1983, both in spite of public protests that the extensions were allocation of public land for use by a privileged few.
