When using the Blowing Point ferry to St. Martin, you may have wondered about that small beach which curves westward out to a sandy point.
Naturally, it is called Sandy Point Beach, and it is the only beach in Anguilla with such an extended point (the point at Shoal Bay is not as distinct).

Sandy Point Shoal Light has a wooden caisson foundation supporting a round 35-foot-diameter cement-filled cast-iron cylinder on which a 2 1/2-story octagonal brick structure rests.
The lighthouse is situated in 5 to 7 feet of water approximately 1000 yards east from the beach at Sandy Point State Park and approximately 1 1/2 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Just offshore from St. George's is the small island of Sandy Point, which is an extension of the Flat Island Bar extending from Young's cove to the west.
Those who have taken the short boat ride to the island call it a "jewel" or "delight." The fishing community on the spit declined as the railway bypassed it and the sea breached the bar opposite Shallop Cove.
Sandy Point is best known for its nesting pairs of Willet and Common Blackheaded Gull, both very local but increasing breeders in Newfoundland, but a summer visit will reveal many other birds.
