Sandyston Township is a small semi-rural Township located in the north-western part of the state in Sussex County, New Jersey, near the Pennsylvania border.
New Jersey's Fifth Congressional District, covering the northern portions of Bergen County, Passaic County and Sussex County and all of Warren County, is represented by Scott Garrett (R, Wantage Township).
The 24th legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Robert Littell (R, Franklin) and in the Assembly by Guy R. Gregg (R, Flanders) and Alison Littell McHose (R, Sparta).

In 1967, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced plans for a new freeway connecting rapidly growing, suburban Morris County with newly developing recreational areas in Sussex County.
Construction of the current 8.2-mile section of the NJ 15 Freeway, between Morris CR 615 in Jefferson Township and NJ 181 in Sparta Township, was completed in 1974.
The new four-lane section would have left-turn lanes, realigned intersections at Wilson Road and White Lake Road, and new grade-separation structures to replace the existing railroad crossings.
