Sanford and Son is an American television sitcom, the U.S. remake of the British sitcom Steptoe and Son.
Sanford and Son first aired on the NBC television network on January 14, 1972 and was broadcast for six seasons until the final original episode aired on March 25, 1977 (repeat episodes were broadcast until September 2, 1977).
Sanford and Son peaked at #2 in the Nielsen ratings during the 1972-73 season, when the series was second only to All in the Family in terms of ratings.

Her work on "Sanford and Son" was considerably less hazardous, and led her to a successful career as a character actress.
Sanford and Son still did very well without Fred, regaining its 2nd place spot in the ratings, and that NBC recieved alot of phone calls, mostly favorable, regarding the substitution of Mayo for Foxx.
