Sanford hailed from Mt. Carmel, Illinois and was a graduate of Central Normal College (which closed in 1951) in Danville, Indiana where he received a degree in pedagogy, which is another term for teaching.
In 1925 Sanford was elected to the Missouri Legislature as a Representative from the Fifth District.
Sanford continued to teach at the school, however, and in 1959 suffered a fatal coronary thrombosis in the parking lot at Easton and died before reaching the hospital (St. Louis Globe Democrat).

Clearly Sanford has been dedicated to his environment; the only reason the wines aren't labelled as organic is apparently the wineries commitment to the use of a little sulphur to prevent oxidation.

Sanford is a census-designated place (CDP) in York County, Maine, United States.
Sanford is in the western portion of a tract of land purchased in 1661 from Abenaki Chief Fluellin by Major William Phillips, an owner of mills in Saco.
Phillips willed it to her former husband's son, Peleg Sanford, from whom the name is derived, although it was first called "Phillipstown." Sanford would be incorporated in 1768.
