The allegation derives from a statement by Wladyslaw Sanguszko that the dam of a horse called Szumka, said horse being a contemporary of Zboj who was purchased for Slawuta in 1813, was an English (Thoroughbred) mare.
However at the time Sanguszko wrote about this questionable horse there were not one but three Szumkas available who could have been the horse in question.
Sanguszko also wrote that the questionable Szumka had most of his female get culled because they were not high enough quality.

However, the most common source of non-Arab blood in AHRA pedigrees (and in WAHO pedigrees worldwide) is from native Polish mares from the 19th century Sanguszko and Branicki studs.
This was documented in scholarly studies of those studs published in Germany prior to World War I, by the owner of the Sanguszko stud in 1900, and by officials of the Polish registry.
The Potocki stud at Antoniny was derived from and considered by its owner as a branch of the Sanguszko stud, a Sanguszko daughter having taken a large portion of the Sanguszko horses with her as dowry when she married into the Potocki family.

Today, Polish pedigrees can be traced back to only three of the surviving stud farms, all in the less tumultuous southern and southeastern part of the country, and all still owned by the descendants of their founders: the Slawuta, Bialocerkiew and Jarczowce studs.
Although family stories say that the Slawuta stud farm existed as early as 1506—which would make it likely the country's oldest—documents date its foundation to 1791 by Prince Hieronim Sanguszko.
From the beginning, the farm imported the best purebred horses from the Middle East, and it won top honors at international horse shows and exhibitions as far back as the 1867 World Exhibition in Paris.
